Despite the particular esteem of the scouting method, the SJM is conscious that it is not equally attractive to all young people. Therefore the members of the SJM encourage in their pastoral care other types of youth work such as e.g. alter-serving groups. The service at the Altar is after all not simply a practically-necessary task for a smooth carrying-out of the Holy Mass, but possesses in itself a pedagogical function: It teaches admiration, deference and love towards the Blessed Sacrament. "How Lovely is your Dwelling Place, O Lord Mighty God" (Ps 84,2). This applies particular to the liturgical service in the extraordinary form. Alongside the regular altar-service courses in parishes, the SJM additionally offers during holidays special alter-service courses which encourage a deepened liturgical education (up to the Solemn High Mass).
Still more opportunities for work with young people present themselves in parishes: preparation for first communion, confirmation groups, "Jungschar", "Landjugend", etc. It is always about leading youth towards a living and personal friendship with Christ, who gives them the strength to shape their lives after the Catholic Faith.
