The Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a particular feature of the SJM. Granted, many other communities also treasure this consecration. However the emphasis which is laid on this consecration within the SJM is indeed something special. Besides the solemn renewal of both of these consecrations within the community on special feast days, every member of the order is obliged to renew the consecrations every day in his own words and furthermore to live them out. Apart from a concrete and lived devotion to these two most Blessed Hearts, the SJM would be unimaginable.
"Now, since Mary is of all creatures the one most conformed to Jesus Christ, it follows that among all devotions that which most consecrates and conforms a soul to our Lord is devotion to Mary, his Holy Mother, and that the more a soul is consecrated to her the more will it be consecrated to Jesus Christ”(Pope John Paul II ).
What does consecration mean concretely? That the name "Servants of Jesus and Mary" should not be simply an external designation of the order, but rather bring forward the essence of the vocation and mission of her members. It is true both for the community, as also for each individual member, that Jesus and Mary are the true superiors. They should lead the SJM and have each individual member at their disposal - and so long as each individual does not cease with his daily devotion to Christ and his Mother, then both will see that the Divine Will is carried out in and through the SJM.
At the same time, it is a central concern of the SJM to further spread the personal consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary among the faithful .
